Field guide / Selling bullion

Know the exit before you enter.

A sale involves a bid, verification, costs and a settlement process.

A displayed estimate is not a confirmed sale

Ainslie’s selling page distinguishes its indicative buyback estimator from the final price following receipt and verification. Ask the specific dealer when a price locks, whether the quote can expire and what happens if testing finds a different fineness or product.

Keep the bid separate from the reference

A market reference and a dealer bid are different inputs. A bid may be below a reference while a purchase quote may be above it. Our Resale Scenario Lab applies a user-defined bid discount to a future reference; that is a hypothetical model, not a dealer commitment.

Add the costs on both sides

Include your original purchase cost, cumulative storage already paid and any sale-side transport, testing or handling charges. The tool shows nominal net proceeds and the future reference required to match those stated costs. It excludes tax, inflation and financing, so the result is not a full investment return.

Check the settlement route

Ask how verification works, when funds are released and what records are supplied. Obtain written shipping and insurance instructions directly from the receiving dealer before moving metal. Never use this website to send bullion, identity documents or bank details.

Use a downside case as well

A break-even threshold is arithmetic, not a price forecast. Change the hypothetical reference down as well as up and examine the cash difference. A storage plan with no ongoing fee can still have transaction or conversion costs.
