Field guide / Silver

More metal. More logistics to consider.

Compare unit economics alongside delivery, storage and eventual resale.

Normalise the quotation

Silver may be quoted in kilograms, grams or troy ounces. Convert to a common fine-weight basis before comparing a price. The same nominal weight can differ in fine content if fineness differs. Our comparator treats every input as gross mass before applying fineness.

Look beyond the headline premium

Freight, handling and storage charges can change the effective cost. A small order with a modest metal premium can have a larger all-in premium after fixed delivery charges. Enter the complete quoted item amount and separate additional charges without counting any fee twice.

Storage capacity matters

Weight and volume affect the practical storage question. Ask about accepted product types, maximum weights, access and loading charges. Ainslie’s storage page publishes product restrictions and per-weight charges, illustrating why product eligibility belongs in a comparison.

Plan the route out

Ask a dealer whether loose coins, unopened tubes, large bars and other-brand products are accepted, and how they will be tested. Packaging or provenance can affect handling and verification. A quotation should say when its price becomes binding and who bears transit risk.

A ratio does not decide suitability

The gold-to-silver ratio is a relationship between two prices. It does not establish that either metal is cheap or that a price must revert. We focus on transparent costs and product questions rather than forecasting returns or recommending an allocation.
